Putting Your Marriage First
BEE Mark Semple CCC
My mantra is: Put the 'us' in business.
Essentially, it is the essence of the journey I seek to share with my wife.
Recently, we realized that we were both becoming busier with our businesses and that we were starting to spend less time with each other, or on the fun things we love to do.
Now, my wife & I have a great thing going on. We actually DO like to spend time together.
And, like most, we were devoting more time to our businesses because we want to be more, have more and do more.
On a recent teleseminar I gave on gaining spouse support, I shared that a couple is in this together. They win together or they lose together.
The reality is, as long as you are together with a strong and fulfilling relationship, you have won.
There will always be times when we have to do some extra duty, or where one spouse has to be away from home for a few days. We simply make the shifts we need to get thru.
When it becomes a constant way of life and you find yourselves living separate lives, then you may be finding yourself heading for some issue.
Changing course is simply a matter of making some shifts. One of the foundations of fulfilling relationships is communication.
How often do you take time to communicate heart to heart with your partner? Do you really know what is going on with them? Or are your communications brief, pointed status reports or damage control?
When was the last time YOU felt like you were really listened to and -- more importantly -- heard?
Even if you are in a busy period and quality time together is a stretch, there are always opportunities to express yourself to your significant other and remind them of what a blessing they are to your life and how much they mean to you.
Remember always that how you are showing up and contributing is the first step towards the life and relationship you desire.
Success can be a lonely journey -- or the most fun you have ever had together as a couple.
Enjoy the ride.
